On appeal to us from an Appellate Division order of affirmance, the defendant complains that the Trial Judge, in denying his Sandoval (People v Sandoval, 34 N.Y.2d 371) application to preclude his cross-examination as to earlier convictions, applied an erroneous legal yardstick.
